Mozyhome mac causes system preferences crash12/27/2023 ![]() They just send me template emails saying I need to reassign the money I have paid to another subscription. I failed as the online portal would not let me and referred me to customer services who still will not give me a refund! The support staff do not abide by the cancellation and refund process appearing on their website. They transferred me from Mozy and since then have taken my money despite my trying to cancel before the subscription was due. Unless you like to roll the dice, or are a real pro in I.T. I would not recommend home users to use this product due to it's slow speed, and lack of any helpful Service Support. I am not installing Carbonite on my new machine, even though my subscription is still paid up. Not all, mind you, just about half of them, sprinkled throughout the entire time I had been using the backup system. The last problem I discovered was that many of my Microsoft Office for Mac Word Files came back to me as Unix.exe files. I purchased an app which discovered and removed 58,000 duplicate photographs. There were an enormous number of duplications in my iPhoto files, for unknown reasons. My iTunes files did not reflect many of the changes and adjustments I had made to them. I figured it al out, but it was very stressful. No help was available except through a partner company which sounded off-shore, wanted immediate payment before talking, and wanted on-line access to my new machine. The drive was delivered, but the only instructions there were was how to un-encrypt the drive. The offered a Courier Service for about $100, sending me all my data on an external drive, which I then was to return to them. Carbonite informed me that my backup would take several weeks using an on-line connection. It was not until February of 2019 that I needed to restore any information, as my old iMac had a total drive failure. The idea of continuous incremental back-up, recognizing and adjusting for changes to the backed up files was very appealing. I have a large music and photography collection on the computer as a hobby, and didn't want to risk a total data loss. I had a single iMac computer, and no particular tech savvy. I started off backing up with Carbonite in 2011. Buy an external drive and backup software. Therefore, Carbonite's plan is to: Protect the data of existing Mozy customers and partners Secure the investment that employees, customers and partners have made in Mozy Enhance and expand the data protection capabilities of Mozy customers and partners through the Carbonite Data Protection Platform" So protecting data means dumping any profitless customers, not even offering them an upgrade route. "Together, we will build a stronger future for data protection." "Carbonite is committed to supporting existing Mozy customers and partners. Stark contrast to the BS media statement put out weeks prior: "We welcome the Mozy community to the Carbonite family," said Mohamad Ali, President and CEO of Carbonite. A simple email was sent out advising that users could expect this and that all their files would be lost. Despite assurances from their PR department and CEO they unceremoniously dumped anyone with a Mozy free account today, pulling the plug and deleting their files. If it were up to me, my office would find a different provider.Ĭarbonite dumps Mozy users and their data.Ĭarbonite acquired Mozy in order to eliminate competition. ![]() Hopefully, we never need to find out if the back up service is inept or not. RIDICULOUS! Get is together over their, makes me worried that their back up service isn't actually all they claim it to be. One to ask the issue, verify user info and then a transfer to someone else to actually take payment and update our card info. So frustrating, a 2 min task as simple as updating billing info took me almost 45 minutes! Not sure why I have to speak with two different people to do this. I imagine their poor phone staff are brow beaten on the regular after people suffer through the website, the non stop links to the FAQ's that you can't find an answer in. don't actually take you to a page to accomplish these things. Their website is slow and links to update account info, credit card on file etc. Customer service, if you can figure out how to get a hold of an actual human, is horrible. Why am I not surprised that they have an average 1 star rating, w/ 31 reviews.
